Siridao, Siridao Beach, Siridao Beat show etc Siridao Siridao is a small beach side village in Tiswadi Taluka. Siridao is in between Goa-Velha and Bambolim on NH17. Siridao is also known as Xirdona, Xiddona, Shiridon Siridao neighbouring villages are: Goa-Velha, Maine-Curca & Bambolim
Throw a stone anywhere is Siridao and it fall in the property own/owned by Dempo’s. How is that possible? Well, it very simple, entire Siridao (poperty) owned by Dempos. And hence all locals are/were Dempos tenants. How come? I don’t know, I am also copying this to our popular Goa Research Net (GRN) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/goa-research-net/ Hoping some one there would throw some lights. I could be wrong too. Locals from Siridao are/were basically fisherfolks (Kharvi). Siridao is famous for Jez Nodrem or Jez Nozrem (Jesus of Nazareth) feast which is celebrated on first Sunday after Easter. See Pics & video-Chapel etc Traditional Pez or Canji is served to all devotees on the feast day (Courtesy Dempos). (It was said Dempos stopped serving the traditional Pez for some time but soon they realized the consequences and they had to start it again) Pez was served free of cost and still it is served FREE except the ‘Maittul’ ( earthen bowl) which you have to buy your self. Pickle was also served free of cost. Most devotees come here just for the devotional or medicinal or miraculous ‘Pez’. They say it takes away or clears all sickness (Skin diseases or ‘coll’). Siridao feast also known as ‘Pejechem fest’. I won’t be wrong if I say nearly half the Siridao migrated to France /Paris ( and now to UK Swindon) Infact, they are one of the first to move out in late 60’s and early 70’s. Today, Siridao has become a showcase for finest residential Bungalows. Almost all of them occupied just once a year , mainly during summer holidays July/August. Siridao was in the news recently, where the villagers come together to oppose construction of a project near Sea View owned by Ryan Valles and a bungalow near the Chapel, owned by Rohan Satish Timblo see pics & video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=teSvxD0UINI Or http://ishare.rediff.com/filevideo-Siridao-beach-etc-id-146045.php Siridao Beach: Nice, quite or secluded beach. Not frequented by tourists nor ‘Bhiknnakars’. Below the Chapel, there is a long stair case to go down where there is a beautiful Picnic spot. (see above link) http://youtube.com/watch?v=MK91SZ7LSdo or http://ishare.rediff.com/filevideo-Goa-Sunset-Beach-special-id-145912.php The Siridao Beat Show After seeing the ad on local English dailies, we had decided to attend their 16th annual (news paper ad says 14th Annual)Beat Show organized by Siridao Sports Club. On 5th April 2008. Band in attendance were: Big City Band, Pure Majic & Blue Waves beside DJ Roy. It was to start at 5 and finish at 10pm. Knowing, in Goa, nothing starts on time, we arrived there just after 6.30pm. A this time the police outnumbered the crowed i.e. There was no one except 50+ policemen.. Once the BLUE WAVES started at 7.30pm, half the 75 odd crowed were migrant workers who work on trawlers/canoes there and at this time police strength rose to about 100 including women Police. After 8.30pm. crowed started poring in large numbers. I thought I would take 5 minutes of each of the bands only to put up on the net in the name of Siridao people who are in Paris and Swindon UK. I have just started to video shoot, suddenly a man came to me and ask if I were a reporter. I said no. He then said video shooting and photography is not allowed. I just want to take 5 minutes of each band, he say no. Then I asked him if it was OK if I were a reporter, he replied not even reporters are allowed. Then I asked him, may I know the reason why? ‘We don’t want to create any controversies, besides, this is a private show’ he replied. I did not argue any further. We waited there till the first band (blue Waves) finished their performance i.e. at 8.45pm. We understand that the show ended just after 10pm. Guess who were the two chief guests? None other than the two brothers from Agassaim, who last year inducted as two living saints in the traditional Goa-Velha Santa-Pursaum (30+2). That’s it. That was about Siridao Coming next Agxicars, including mouth watering Agxichim Cheurisam Siridao Pics beautiful Chapel.
