The residents of St. Inez have raised a banner of revolt against the construction work that has commenced near the Alto St. Inez Junction, in the ward represented by the CCP Corporator Jyoti Masurkar who owes her allegiance to the opposition BJP Panel. The construction work relates to a Hotel Project that is purported to come up in this area and being located right next to the sloping road leading to Altinho, the residents fear that this would be hazardous to the free flow of traffic and to the movement of residents in the locality. The residents also fear that this construction on the hill gradient is likely to cause potential environmental damages leading to landslides that could pose serious threats to the homes in the vicinity and to its inhabitants.
Based on their preliminary inquiries, the protesting residents are prima facie convinced that several laws have been violated by the Corporation of the City of Panaji(CCP) and the Town and Country Planning Department in issuing the necessary permissions. Earlier, the residents briefed the Deputy Mayor Yatin Parekh when they saw hill cutting work taking place and he assured them that he would look into their grievances. The work has since been put to a temporary halt and the builder has been asked to report to the CCP along with the relevant documents. The residents have also written to the Hon' ble Leader of the opposition Shri Manohar Parrikar and some other NGOs for looking into this matter.
