Help others be BETTER INFORMED -------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------- Accidents on the rise in Merces -------------------------------------------- The Merces Civic and Consumer Forum urged the Road Safety and Traffic Department to take some urgent measures to stop the daily accidents that takes place on the Merces - Santan-Curca road.
The forum informed the department that after the repairs and hot mixing of the accidents had increased at an alarming rate thereby creating number of the accidents on a regular basis due to the sudden increase of transport on this road. Most of the tourists and local vehicles are using Merces short cut road to go to Margao, Vasco and Dabolim airport thus creating a lot of panic amongst the road users. Some months back a man lost his life near the sharp turn near the Military sewage plant just above the Merces Medicinal spring. Recently, a young lad from Vaddy Merces met with a serious accident near Apna Ghar at Voilem Bhat, Merces. Few days back a retired employee of the police department was also injured at Dovornem Merces and another young lad had dislocated his shoulder at Mesta Bhat, Merces. The convenor of Merces foum Floriano Fernandes requested the Traffic superintendent of Police to inspect this area from Dr Jack de Sequeira junction to Curca Santan road and install the traffic signal to avoid accidents. It was felt that there is also the need of speed breakers or rumblers near the Dovornem and Market junctions for the smooth flow of traffic. The Forum also informed about the complaints from the students and general public that in the absence of clear side markings on the road it becomes extremely difficult for road users as the vehicles are speeding at a high speed on a newly carpeted road.
