Adv Aires has defamed me,says AG
PANJIM, MAY 22 - In his deposition before the city Judicial Magistrate First
Class (JMFC) Edgar Fernandes, the Advocate General Subodh Kantak stated that
he has been defamed by Adv Aires Rodrigues with "false" allegations of
double and excessive billing leveled against him.
He further submitted that his "good and clean reputation" has been violated
and infringed by Adv Rodrigues and that his actions have been mentally
agonizing, inconvenient and has caused a lot of indignation to him as
Advocate General of the State.
He said, he had a very good reputation as a lawyer and was known to the
public as a professional with high degree of competence and unquestioned
integrity.
He further stated that he had appeared as a defense lawyer for various
prominent public figures, and had appeared for institutions including the
Goa State Co-operative Bank and Goa Cricket Association. Kantak has also
filed a civil suit claiming Rs 15 crore by way of damages from Utt Goenkara
spokesman Adv Rodrigues.
Hearing was adjourned till May 23, to record the statement of Adv Leena
Kamat Dharwadkar, whom Kantak has cited as his witness. The Advocate General
was represented by Adv V A Lawande.
