The other day, while going to an outlet selling electrical hardware, in Panjim, I was surprised to note that the Centurion Bank of Punjab had merged with the HDFC. Or rather, is in the process of merging. Somehow I had missed the news [1] earlier. But I do recall that Centurion had been launched with much fanfare a few years ago, and had later merged with the Bank of Punjab. Would any of the financial pundits on Goanet tell us what went wrong? Just curious... I used to bank there earlier, and at one stage, Centurion did have fairly advanced electronic banking facilities (compared to the other banks in Goa then). FN
