Hi Paulo

As I said, its always nice to hear something positive. I stand corrected on
my error regarding the Citizenship process & the processing of a Passport. The
subject line was regarding Portuguese Passports but I made a reading error, was
too quick reading the post, not taking it fully on board and lost the link (its
creeping Alzheimers on my part, said it before), so ok I apologise this little
mistake.

I really dont think you needed to go into a tirade over it. I made a simple
mistake, a few lines of correction to me would have sufficed. But there is a
darker side lurking in your retun post on the subject (bad temper / hung-over /
just not happy what life has dished out to you / whatever!!!!!!!!)

As for your comment on my father's nationality & my name being John, well
that is correct, I had a Portuguese father, in fact I was born in London by a
Portuguese (Catholic) Father (Casimiro Monteiro)....... who was at the time
(refer to Goanet Archives) under several pseudonyms due to his profession, one
of which he used when he signed my birth certificate as Ullah............. In
fact he signed it Emer Ullah (Emer supposedly was for Emerito, one of his many
"Christian" names..........).

You will find all you need to know about my father if you Google his name, as
for my mother, she was half English (Protestant) and half French (Jew).

As I said previously (refer to Gaonet archives again), my parents were
European, I am European. I lived and breathed Goa for nearly 11 years of my
life & have only recently beenable to regain my breath, on Goanet especially
but not exclusively (via private emails). Albeit I stumbled upon this website,
I cannot leave it alone, I feel my decade in Goa took me to heights I have
never been able to regain in the last 47 years of my adult life.

In one of my last posts on the subject of my 'parental heritage' I mentioned
this & more, and asked (at about the same time as others were discussing their
parentage & associated relatives, names / places etc) & received a post saying
that if my mother was an Ullah than she was from a very poor muslim background.
WHAT ????? No point in replying to that poster, who was incorrect (as was I
regarding acquiring passport etc). I thought I'd correct him but he had ranted
a bit, so decided to leave him thinking he was correct. He was not correct but
his ranting grated on my sensibilities, so let him be, then I was pilloried by
3 regular posters for 'vomiting in public'.

Yes I made a mistake in both cases, I admit I said what I did & apologised to
everyone if I said too much. I mistakenly thought by adding a little of my past
to Goanet, I would feel this "Goan family feeling" on this forum, how wrong was
I ?? There is such a thing, that exists because I felt it with all our Goan
friends & relatives who were in Goa, it is a very special feel, almost brings
tears to one's eyes when you experience it. I have never felt this since
leaving in 1961, and sad to say, that 'almost Goan family feeling' I had in
cyber-space has been obliterated totally when I read the garbled rubbish that
followed, from the 'superior' Portuguese Goans who berated me.

As I said before, and say it again I also apologise for my mistake regarding
the two different subjects, processing of citizenship & processing of
passports. It was a genuine error on my part.

I have been previously admonished publicly on this forum by one regular
poster (I had assumed some posters would have delighted in the tale, in actual
fact 5 people emailed me privately to ask me more about my father, and of my
mother too......), but on Goanet I was wrong, 2 more regular posters disliked
what I said (for their own reasons, but more on this when I have compiled my
listings regarding dear daddy & his dealings in Goa / UK / Spain / Russia /
Mozambique / South Africa etc etc) but did not take time to answer my question
at the end which was the reason for my post) other than cyber-spit in my face.
I can still feel the stain of their spittle...........

Since joining Goanet begining of last year I already mentioned my boyhood in
Goa, but lately said I was the result of so many faiths & my involvement in Goa
( inc First Communion in LHS / Margao / Mapuca / Santa Cruz Village / etc), so
I keep to myself on this subject now, though I correspond privately to many
Goanetters (some who have left because of the rough treatment they have
received from some of the regular posters who sit at the front desks of the
Goanet Classroom & are first with their hands up to teacher) but I still post
occasionally, though my correspondence in the most part is via private emails.

Yes the comparison was absurd, and I give you my heartfelt apologies for my
mistake. But like I said, there was not need to go into a fit about it.

Now you also know that my mother was NOT the product of a poor muslim family
because of my FATHER's false surname of Ullah, you are also au fait about my
father, that is all there is to say, really (on this forum).

I have NO IDEA about your name, other than your first middle & last name is
possibly derived from Portuguese as we are on a Goan forum, it could be
Galician / Spanish too I guess your family name is originally Portuguese,
(perhaps a conversion if you are 100% Goan / PIO etc), I dont know, but I
hazard a guess your surname could have been de Dias also, etc etc...

  None of my business either.

  John Monteiro

John Monteiro, let me tell you that your comparison is most absurd. You are
comparing the process of recouping or acquiring Portuguese citizenship with the
process of getting a British passport. That comparison does not make sense and
it is ridiculous................. It is Portuguese Citizenship that takes time
to get. Not a Portuguese passport because you can get that in less than 24
hours.............I have often corrected Goans in this respect. You should not
say you are getting a Portuguese passport. The right term is getting Portuguese
Citizenship which is a completely different process. In order to get a
Portuguese passport, you need to be a Portuguese citizen first. Just like in
order to get a British passport you need to be a British citizen
first............. Clear now?????............... I do hope so. BTW, is your
name really John on your birth certificate or Joao? :-) I am just surprised
that your father being so Portuguese gave you the name of John instead
 of Joao..............Paulo Colaco Dias

Its always nice to hear of something positive, and thank you for that, shows
that perseverance & patience pays off in the end. Well done & congratulations
to you. Two years does seem an awful long time when you consider in the UK
three weeks for a passport is 'a lifetime's wait' for the majority who want to
use it only to go on holidays to Costa del Fish &
Chips. Patience on your part, correct documentation etc have at last paid off
for you.
