I don't know about the rest of the material presented in this thread, but the 
above is quite obviously wrong. If I remember correctly, there were many 
prehistoric tribes, including those in south India that followed the 
matriarchal and matrilinear system. I think a buffalo-herding pastoral tribe of 
Goa that moved in from the south had such an organization. From the 
evolutionary standpoint, Bonobos, one of our closest cousins in the primate 
family live in a primitive matriarchal society.
