FIR lodged against Goa education minister Panaji, Sep 11 (PTI) A local NGO today lodged an FIR against Goa's Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte for allegedly submitting a false affidavit with the Election Commission. Utt Goenkara, an NGO, in its FIR has stated that Monseratte during the Assembly elections held in May last year had filed a misleading affidavit declaring himself to be a high school pass out from St Theresa's High School Bandra, Mumbai, despite the fact that he studied till standard seventh.
Spokesperson for the NGO, Aires Rodrigues has said that a letter received from the headmaster of the school states that Monseratte was admitted to St Theresa's on June 19, 1975 in 6th standard and left the school half way on September 7, 1978 while in standard 8th. The FIR also mentions about Monseratte's signed statement to the Secretary of the Goa Legislative Assembly to the effect that he had passed BA second year and that this was subsequently published on the website of the Goa Legislative Assembly. Rodrigues has said Monseratte had made an incorrect statement in the affidavit which he knew was false. The FIR has been filed under sections 171 (G), 181 and 199 of the Indian Penal Code.
