Neenad Desai's cell-camera shot of a panoramic view of Cuncolim: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fn-goa/2892336683/sizes/o/
Neenad explains: A panoramic view of Cuncolim and the surrounding area from the top of the Kankanamoddi hill. The pic is a stitched image of about 5-6 photos showing about 360degrees towards east+south+west. It wasn't a very clear day and this is not bad from a cellphone camera at dusk. You can see the hills in the east and south tapering out to the Arabian sea on the west. East (Left): - First white spot is a small church amidst the greenery. - Smoke billows from the Industrial zone (a blemish on an otherwise green picture) - The highway passes through farmland into the town. - Just above the houses, a patch of water shows a small irrigation dam, one of the 12 small dams (Barah Bandh) that dot the areas surrounding the main town of Cuncolim. These dams go back hundreds of years and the town has been called "The Land of 12 dams" and continues to be a richly productive farmland. The people of Cuncolim say, "Barah bandhachem udok pivon ami ghott zalea." South (Center): - The main town is across the farmland. The town is full of trees. On a clearer day, you can catch glimpses of some buildings and houses. - The white patch is the new town bus station. Just below that is the soccer field. - The mountains above, part of the Western Ghats, are the among highest in south Goa. The highway snakes through them, passing the highest point of Karmalghat on the way to Canacona & Karwar. West (Right): - The famed South Goan coastline, preceeded by large tracts of coconut plantations. - Sun is about to set making the sea water shine. - You can see in between some shining parts of the Sal river snaking through towards the sea near Assolna. Near West: - Road (work in progress) snaking its way to the top of this hill, a community hall along the way. Earlier, we had to trek up the hill... now we can drive up. Yet another successful attempt to make ourselves less healthier!
