Every where in Goa one sees posters, video clips, hoardings and messages extolling one and all to avoid deadly diseases like Malaria, Dengue, etc. Obviously, this message hasn't reached the Mapusa civic authorities - Municipal Councillors, Inspectors, Health and sanitary workers.
Mapusa boasts of a building, situated plumb on the main D. B. Bandodkar Road, which was according to the folly of its architect and builder, supposed to have a basement. The basement failed because the cheap and flimsy water proofing could not withstand the onslaught of seepage. So what we have is a sewer hole, full of stinking sewage water! The shocking thing about this is that this sewer is partly exposed and there have been no attempts to bury the sewer hole since it has failed to meet its original objective. Apart from the obvious health hazard and danger to citizens using the footpath (this building is adjacent to a prominent nationalised bank), the sewer hole makes a perfect place to dispose of sundry items safely like victims of a murder!!! Will good sense prevail? Or are the civic authorities so calloused and need infusions or transfusions of vitamin M to motivate them? -- Tony de Sa Ph: +91 832 2470148 E: [EMAIL PROTECTED] M: +91 9975 162 897 ----------------------------------------------------------- Achievement is largely the product of steadily raising one's levels of aspiration and expectation. - Jack Nicklaus ------------------------------------------------------------
