I have a soft corner for Christians, says Advani Tue, Sep 30 04:14 AM Allaying fears of Christians regarding the security of the community in BJP-ruled states, the party's prime ministerial candidate, L K Advani, on his visit to the city assured the Christian leaders that the minority community would be protected and that he has already taken up the issue with the chief ministers of Karnataka and Orissa. Advani added that he had a "soft corner" for Christians as he was a product of a Christian institution, having studied at St Patrick's School in Karachi. Christian leaders, including Archbishop Dominic Jala, met Advani and expressed their concern over the killings of Christians in Orissa, Karnataka, MP and Chhattisgarh. Advani arrived here on Monday amid unprecedented security. The police and National Security Guard threw a security ring around him after an email threat said that he would be targeted during his Sankalp Yatra to Shillong. Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy and former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma met him, as did religious leaders like Jala. Sangma raised the issue of attack on Christians in Orissa and Karnataka and Advani assured him that he had taken up the issue with the concerned state governments. Jala submitted a memorandum to Advani expressing the anguish of the community. The memorandum read: "Given the records of attacks on Christians in various states ruled by the BJP, we express our great doubts and anxiety for our future if our country is governed by such a party again."
