Press Statement

The Goa Su-Raj Party is shocked at the way criminal and grievous assault has been made by Goa's anti-social elements on the person of social activists Adv. Aires Rodrigues and Prof. Prajal Sakhardande in a public place in the City of Panjim. In this connection, the Party would like to state as under:-

1.. That this grievous assault on Adv. Aires Rodrigues is directly linked to the ongoing investigations in the matter of a member of the family of Goa's Education Minister having been involved in meting out cell-phone oriented sexual harassment to the German citizen residing in Goa, which investigations Adv. Aires Rodrigues was actively pursuing. That Prof. Prajal Sakhardande has been caught in the cross fire is unfortunate.

2.. That Goa's renewed and indiscriminate social and environmental activism has unsettled the corrupt politicians and their henchmen cum vested interests is altogether apparent from this grievous assault as well as the manhandling, beating-up in full view of Goa Police and the subsequent arrests of an underage child along with a lady octogenarian and other known anti-mining activists who were peacefully protesting at the Quepem mining site, trying to bring awareness to the world of the degradation and destruction caused to Goa's environment in the name of mining for iron ore, benefits of which are far from reaching the comman man.

3.. That the Goa Government led by Shri. Digamber Kamat is whole-heartedly conniving with the corrupt politician/bureaucratic nexus is amply evident from the impotency and lack of will displayed by the government in curbing the immoral businesses or otherwise activities of a few patrons, allowing the law and order machinery to be waylaid almost to the extent of making it non-existent to the detriment of the citizenry of Goa. As such, Shri. Digamber Kamat has lost the right to remain in office as Goa's Chief Minister and must resign forthwith clearing the way for the imposition of President's rule in Goa to protect the life and limb of conscious citizens of Goa.

The Goa Su-Raj Party believes that it is imperative that the people of Goa must, once again, 'unite' in one voice, as 'one person', just like they did on the 18th. December, 2006 at Azad Maidan, to free Goa from the loosely held criminal-intent driven Goa administration once and for all, so that Goa's precious and scant resources such as 'land', 'water' and Goa's unique 'forest cover' with its mineral resources be saved for its posterity from the clutches of this unethical profiteering lot who are continually brain-washing gullible Goans that they are working in their interests.

The Goa Su-Raj Party appeals to the sensibilities of matured and conscious Goans for timely action, and soon, if Goa is not to pay a heavy price for this indecisiveness where Goa's mainstays, the Police Force is being completely criminalized slowly but surely with the Judiciary not lagging much behind.

TheGoa Su-Raj Party wishes a speedy recovery to Adv. Aires Rodrigues and Prof. Prajal Sakhardande and wish them well

End.
