I'm not sure if Averthan's article appeared on a Goan newspaper or not, but if it did, it is irresponsible of them to carry it and it is irresponsible of Averthan to write it. In a country like India, that must desperately break free from the shackles of all that is illogical and embrace rationality and modernity in haste, we cannot have views that are arcane and totally abusive towards another human being, being bandied about as the truth. We have to constantly work towards the understanding and tolerance of individual human difference, and to continually undermine them is to do our society a grave danger.
