I see no grounds for the our expectation that anybody else (Mario included) should be " moral" in partisan political matters. There is very little in the practice of politics (in Goa or elsewhere) which can be classified as moral.
Never mind the lofty spiel! Even ostensibly educated individuals are unjustifiably and inexplicably partisan - finding justification for strikingly bad decisions and actions. It's like a father saying to the child: "Son, I beat you into pulp so that others could be safe." or "Son, I took money from you so that I could spend it the way I think I should spend your hard earned money". On the one side -denial appears to be the modus operandi; on the other it is pure political sloganeering and repetition of talking points. All this with lies and conveniently twisted facts to suit the moment of untruth. It is my understanding that "political promises" are just conditional i.e. promises which are usually not kept and explained away with some imminent crisis or another. It is a case of the "shifting positions". And yet - educated folks like us cannot seem to understand that Politicians will say anything just to get elected. They cannot be taken to court (successfully) for failing to keep the campaign promises. Pray tell me ....who is stupid and who is smart in this equation? And are we all not "hacks" of one sort or another? Isn't it time we took a good look at this totally valueless hacking cough of ours? jc Gilbert Lawrence wrote: " I would rather see "Mario the Moral" on Goanet; instead of another Republican Hack."
