I am surprised to read at herald today Nov. 28 a statement by Hon Secretary Suhas Asnodkar that National 'B' Chess tournament held at Zambauli on 15th to 25th September 2008 arranged by Goa State Chess Association is in loss of Rs.4.5 lacks
If I recollect my memory, I was very happy that it had received a record entries of 400+. Entry fee amount comes to itself was 24 lacks. Tournament entry fees Rs.6000/- per participant (6000 x 400=2400000). I have read and heard Sameer Salgaocar saying "National B is supposed to money spinning for chess association and every one want to organize it, Associations have to send bid amount few years before and we have got this opportunity to organize because we had send bid amount earlier." Total Prize money of Rs.1.5 lacks was sponsored by Monginis Free Hall for the tournament by Zambauli Devastan. Free accommodation for most of the participants by Zambaulim Devastan. Where have this expenses incurred? It looks something fishy in whole matter which every goan should know. There could be very serious reason for eight executive member of the association to resigion. Sameer Salgaocar and his team owe an explanation to Goans for this.
