Dear Marshall,

I think in this moment of grief it is important to support our Mumbai police force in an BIPARTISAN manner, which doesn't seem to be the case, looking at the links you have posted which is extremely cheap on your part.

Sorry if this hurts but I am calling a spade a spade. The reason you seem to be singling out Hemant Karkare for a tribute, for his actions in the Malegaon case. Fair enough, but all the articles that you reference to seem to ignore the fact that he was equally stern dealing with Muslim fanatics and also played a important role in the fight against Naxalites during his stint in Nagpur. Inspite of their differences, even someone like Raj Thackeray did go today to Karkare's residence to pay his last respects. In death one has to (ideally) forget one’s differences and grudges.

Mumbai Police lost 14 men, including reputed officers like Vijay Salaskar, whose funeral was attended by many people from all walks of life. We have also lost a good officer in ACP for east region, Ashok Kamte.

Here is a more comprehensive list for you.

NSG Commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan

NSG Commando Havaldar Gajendra Singh

ATS Chief Hemant Karkare

ACP Ashok Kamte

Vijay Salaskar (Salaskar had the history of gunning down 75 notorious criminals in 'encounters' He killed his 76th criminal on the night of his death.)

Inspector Shashank Shinde

Sub Inspector Prakash More

Inspector Arun R Chitaley

Constable Vijay Khandekar

ASI V Abale

Bhau Saheb Durgure

Nanasahab Bhonsle

Constable Jaywant Patil

Constable Shegosh Patil

Ambadas Ramchandra Pawar

SC Chaudhary

If you have to pay a 'tribute' please do so for all these martyrs who laid down their lives for the country in this moment of crisis rather than selectively choosing what was convenient for you.

Also I wonder where are all those "activists" like Teesta Setalvad / Shabana Azmi who used to go around filing PIL's every time a terrorist or a gangster would be killed in an encounter.

Who is going to file PIL for bereaved family members of these policemen?

BTW, how come no links are being posted on the muslim terror being exported to India by Pakistan? I guess that would make one a RSS / VHP stooge automatically!!

Without any malice to you personally, I was extremely disappointed to read this post on Goanet.

I would say bring back that 'encounter' system, and not just encounters of gangsters but even terrorist hiding in other countries.

One thing you have to give credit to Bush, after 9/11 there has not been any attack on American soil after that.

When will our politicians show courage like the Israelis when they implemented the ‘Operation of Wrath’ after the Munich Massacre ?

regards

Rishi
