Hi Fred,

If I were you, I would not loose sleep on what you did. Goanet is not a
scientific forum.  The two articles in question are far from authoritative or
original creation; though some may think so (no offense intended to any one).
In fact, letters-to-the-editor are routinely edited prior to printing for the
reasons you gave. And editors select the by-line / heading of the letter.  So
if some have nothing better to do, but complain, that is their problem.  Goans
often display their predilection for pettiness.

Actually you should be thanked for giving even wider publicity to another
person's writings - as long as the thrust of the message / quotation was not
changed.  Individuals write to get their message / thoughts across. That is
more important than some by-line or minor altered script.  Many movies are
edited for TV programing (time), and for the local audience (rating). Should
the movie producer or actor etc. take slight? Or should they be glad their
movie (creative work) was screened?  Similarly many artists have their
paintings edited in a variety of ways for better marketing of their product in
a whole variety of formats.

The greater sin on Goanet, and I have pointed this out on a few occasions, is
the tendency to misconstrue, intentionally or unintentionally, what is written
in plain English. And then respond to some weired interpretation of what is
written, or to some tangential point. This was my reading of the original
response to Marshal's post.

If fact my reading of some posts, have their sole aim to rebut / parasite on
other people's posts.  This has been voiced by quite a few individuals, and as
a reason not to contribute to Goanet.  We should use another person's posts to
build on, rather than use other peoples' writings unabashedly for target
practice.

Thanks for asking our feedback.
Regards, GL

I wouldn't see it as 'spicing up', but certainly, yes, there is an attempt to
draw the reader's attention to the article. Looking forward to feedback from
you and other readers, on whether this subtitle might have misrepresented your
views / emphasis, as a guide for the future.
