Deshprabhu's son dies in accident HERALD CORRESPONDENT CALANGUTE, DEC 14 Kunal Jitendra Deshprabhu (25), son of former Pernem legislator, died while the other occupant was injured when the car in which they were traveling rammed into a wall near Hotel Gautam, Sangolda on Sunday at about 4.10 am. According to Calangute police, Kunal and the other occupant Anish Saniyal (36) were proceeding towards their residence. Kunal died on the spot, while Anish who sustained grievous injuries was rushed to Goa Medical College at Bambolim. PERNEM CORRESPONDENT ADDS: The entire Pernem taluka plunged into grief and gloom following the tragic death of Kunal, the lone son of former Pernem MLA Jitendra Deshprabhu. Since early Sunday morning, hundreds of people visited Deshprabhu's residence to express grief over the tragic death of Kunal. Kunal's sister Mrunali, who is studying in United States of America, returned to India on Saturday evening on vacations and was to reach her native place on Sunday. Unfortunately, she could not meet her brother Kunal, who died in a tragic accident at Sangolda in the wee hours of Sunday. Jitendra was interested to involve his son in some business, after Kunal having completed his graduation in Dempo College, Panjim. "Kunal who was born in a royal family of Pernem was very sober and obedient and never fought or interfered in other people's affairs nor was he involved in political activities," recalled Pernem Municipal Council councillor Sudhin Deshprabhu. Kunal was cremated at Nanerwada crematorium by his father Jitendra in the presence of large number of relatives, political leaders, friends and well-wishers. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Panchayat Minister Babu Azgaonkar, Education Minister Babush Monserrate, Governor J P Singh, MLA Laxmikant Parsekar, Ramakant Khalap, Sangita Parab, Zilla Panchayat member Pradeep Patokar, Deepak Kalangutkar and a large number of people attended the funeral.
