Stunning win for Goa BY HERALD REPORTER VASCO, DEC 14 In what could be one of the star performance in the cricketing history, the Goan Ranji team finished their season's engagement with a stunning win against host top league team Himachal Pradesh (HP) by six wickets, at Himachal ground, Dharamsala, on Sunday. A much needed knock of 84 from reliable skipper Swapnil Asnodkar helped Goa to chase the target of 192 runs, including a first innings 84-run lead by HP. Overnight opening pair of Goa Sagun Kamat and Swapnil Asnokdar resumed the Goa innings on 34 runs today but Kamat (27 runs) was caught on wrong foot and he added just 15 runs. Aditya Angle cheaply departed by adding another 5 runs. Later a crucial 86-run third wicket partnership between Asnodkar and Adwait Katkar brought Goa 52 runs short of the target of 192 runs. After a fine knock of 86 from skipper Asnodkar, who departed on 155 in 56.2 overs, it was question of mere formalities as wicket keeper Ajay Ratra was 30 runs not out and Robin D' Souza put on 18 runs to snatch full five points from host HP. Two wins in-a-row at home ground against Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand and now against host team HP positioned Goa at second place with 15 points. Goa have to wait till Monday to confirm their semi-final berth as Haryana have 14 points in their kitty and their fifth match against Jammu and Kashmir will end on Monday.
