New Delhi, Dec 15 (PTI) An emotional father of slain NSG Major Sandeep 
Unnikrishnan, who was killed in the Mumbai terror attack during the commando 
operation, today regretted that his son did not live longer to serve the nation.
"I am seeking an apology on his (Sandeep's) behalf. Had he lived, he could have 
served the nation for 20 more years," K Unnikrishnan said after he was honoured 
at function which was organised to pay homage to the martyrs of Mumbai terror 
attacks.

Unnikrishnan said his family was overwhelmed by the spontaneous show of 
solidarity they received from across the country following his son's death.

"Sandeep is no more but thousands of youngsters are with us. We should not 
forget him and his sacrifice," said Unnikrishnan.

Sandeep's mother C Dhanalaxmi also accompanied Unnikrishnan, who had turned 
away Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan from his Bangalore home for what 
he perceived as Kerala government ignoring his son's sacrifice by not making a 
condolence call in time.

At the function, Rs five lakh and a plaque each were given to the family 
members of martyrs of Mumbai terror attacks and Delhi police officer M C Sharma 
who was killed in the Batla House encounter.

Speaking at the function, organised by spiritual Guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali 
Yogpeeth, daughter of slain Mumbai Anti Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare, 
Juhi thanked every one who stood by the family. PTI
