We Owe It To Our Teachers
Death of one of my teachers, Miss Shalini Hegde (Hindi Teacher at Loyola High School Margao) a few days back inspired me to bring forth this article. If Mother's milk is the bond of love and oneness between a child and a mother, Teachers are the bonds that bind the Schools and It's Students. What ever or where ever the school might be, as soon as you think of your school, involuntarily one tends to, at once remember the teachers, some have fond memories, some not so fond and some even bad memories but even than we never tend to forget our teachers. If the profession of nurses is called a profession of angles, the profession of teachers is not far behind. It's equally revered and respected. Like Nursing, it's a divine profession and should be taken very seriously, like Nurses treat the patient, as their own and nurse them back to physical health, so also the Teachers, nurse the Students to mental health and enlightenment of their minds, and help us become better and wiser people. The famous saying "you can take the horse to the water but cannot force it to drink" is very much applicable to the teacher student relationship, how ever good the teacher might be, we as Students and human beings, have our limitations, some of us, being willing defaulters and some by nature, and we in no way, should blame our teachers, for our personal failings or short comings. It's is up to us to initiate and pursue the development of our own personality and the Teachers are there to mould and guide us in the right direction only if we are willing. We as Students at times, curse the Teachers who are very strict disciplinarians but fail to realize that it is for our own good that they do it for, there are others teachers who are a bit or even very liberal, who are equally effective. As humans, we all are different and have our own views and ways of getting things done but what matters is the intention to meet the end. In Goa with a very high literacy rate, today most of us have been through Schools, but do we ever turn around and value the efforts of the Teachers that has led us to where we are today or is it our paradoxical belief that it is only our own perseverance and dedication that has led to where we are today and the Institutions and it's Staff had nothing to do with it ? If so, we are one ungrateful selfish bunch of people. If one looks at it in the right prospective we should be eternally grateful and thankful to all the Teachers. As a grateful Student I would like to Thank and Salute All the Teachers for their dedication and sacrifices in embalming us with virtues, wisdom and the intellectual to be a good human beings. I would also like to pay my respects to the ones who have passed away, may their souls rest in Peace and enjoy eternal happiness We Most Certainly, Owe It To Our Teachers Freddy Agnelo Fernandes -------------------------------------------------------- The content of this electronic communication is intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed and any others who are specifically authorized to receive it.
