Hoteliers request for 9-ft compound walls HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, DEC 14 In the fear of terror attacks, many hoteliers have suggested to the Government to allow them 9 feet compound walls. This request came from some members two days ago at a meeting convened by Chief Secretary J P Singh. After listening to the plan of action of the State Government, some hoteliers felt that the Government should support them in steps initiated by them. Singh said the Government could consider giving them approvals to put up compound walls. This is however, subject to the approval of Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority of which Singh is the chairman. People in the know feel that constructing high compound walls could go against the very essence of Goa due to which it could be lost. Anyway, vegetable fencing is allowed and there's a big question mark whether constructing the 9 ft compound wall, will bring them more tourists. Many of them from the industry were not keen at all in hearing about bunkers, etc, in the media. They felt the negative publicity in the media will discourage tourists.
