Dear Sandeep, Thank you for the praise showered on me. Please consider the possibility that I be entirely unworthy of such praise.
Steven Weinberg is not subscribed to Goanet and hence not bound by its rules. You are, and so is Samir Kelekar, Ph.D. Abuse is forbidden on Goanet ... or so we are told. As a figure of speech, "God sucks" is not an oxymoron. To an atheist "God" does not exist, conceptually or actually. Can the non-existent "suck" whatever or in whichever way? Do atheists [I do not know if you are one of them] believe that god is some sort of vacuum or low pressure condition that sucks? I have known atheists like Flaviano Dias who believes in castes and is proud to be of the Kshatriya "Desai" stock from Cuncolim or Kunkoli or like my friend Frederick who has had a canonical marriage. So what form of confused atheism, if any, are you? Sandeep, please do not try to misappropriate INDIAN MYTHOLOGY to the HINDU way of life [Sociology does not accept "Hinduism" as a "Religion" as it had no "Founder" and no single accepted text. Besides, the Shaivites and the Vaishnavites do not actually believe in the same "god" or same temporal leaders]. I am an Indian, and Indian mythology is as much mine as of any other Indian ... like the myth of the Loch Ness monster belongs to all Scots! ;-) And just why are YOU tryuing to explain what Samir meant? Are you his alter ego?? Sweetheart, Samir is subscribed to this list. Let him defend himself like a man or a wimp or whatever!! Join "Secular Goa" or "Goa Research Net" if you want to debate religion and atheism. The Goanet is supposed to discuss GOA-CENTRIC issues, if I remember right. If no list entertains it ad nauseam, subscribe to the unmoderated "Goenchim Xapotam". Save Goanet from becoming another GX, since the Moderators obviously lack the will do prevent this. I will try as long as I am subscribed. Mog asundi Miguel Date: Sat, 27 Dec 2008 16:11:10 +0530 From: "Sandeep Heble" <[email protected]> Subject: [Goanet] God sucks Message-ID: <[email protected]> As a writer who has liberally played around with Hindu terms, concepts and ideas, I had expected a lot better of Miguel but sadly he too disappoints on this issue. If Miguel had read my post correctly, he would have figured out what I was trying to convey by using the term "oxymoron". That an Atheist saying God sucks was self-contradictory. Hence, Samir meant the "concept of God" and not God. But sadly, a writer like him does not try to figure out the context of either Samir's post or mine. Like the Nobel Laureate physicist Steven Weinberg who wrote and I quote: "Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." In this forum, you may hear a lot of things that you would not like to. Let this discussion therefore be a progressive one rather than a negative one. After all, it is science and humanism values that have built this World, not religion. Cheers Sandeep Miguel Braganza wrote on Goanet: OXYMORON is "putting together words which seem to contradict each other" according to the OXFORD dictionary. "Bitter-sweet" is one example. I do not know if "God Sucks" qualifies as an oxymoron. ----------- Get your own website and domain for just Rs.1,999/year.* Go to http://in.business.yahoo.com
