Govt. Continues to Suppress Romi Konkani Supporters: Minorities condemned GKA"s
Appointments

The latest appointment of Mr. N. Shivdas as the chairman of the Goa Konkani
Academy
has once again proved that the post of the Chairman has fixed fixed only for
the
members of a particular community. The continued appointment of a chairman for
the
seventh time in a row from a certain section of the societies has broken all
the
past records of govt. run organizations in Goa. This is nothing but the
systematic
suppression of the minorities.

The names of the past chairman are on record of the last twenty years or more.
The
people who had sacrificed so much during the language agitations in the period
during 1986 and 1987 have been sidelined and isolated by the govt. in power for
the
best reason known to them. It was expected that this time at least a Romi
Konkani
activists/leader will be appointed as the chairman of the Goa Konkani Academy
to
give equal representation for all the sections of the societies as far as the
top
post is concerned. The govt.'s role in the whole episode needs to be double
checked
by all the true Konkani and secular people of Goa. It openly reflects some
hidden
agenda from some quarters those are hell bent on diluting Goan Identity in the
name
of Devnagiri Konkani. The promotions of Devanagiri Konkani by Goa Konkani
Academy in
Educational and govt. institutions after the official language bill was passed
in
the last twenty years speak the truth. The introduction of devanagiri Konkani
in the
Diocesan run schools had created hundreds of drop outs resulting in
unemployment and
degrading the moral values of our societies.

It is high time the Govt. and devanagiri lobby lead by few Saraswats understand
the
seriousness of Konkani language which indirectly helps the people of other
states to
take the strong roots in Goa putting the ethnic Goans into trouble. If our
Identity
is lost then everything will be lost. The zero percent progress of Konkani in
last
22 years is an eye opener it did not help Konkani neither brought Konkani
speaking
people together. The division gap have already been widen amongst the
communities to
help the saffronites. We expect the present govt. is in better position to
solve the
language issue once and for all only if they distance themselves from the
Devnagiri
fanatics.

The recent outburst by some leaders of the Konkani Bhaxa Mandal, and Ashmitai
Prathistan criticizing Fr. Pratap Naik and PWD minister shri Churchill Alemao
for
supporting Romi Konkani at the first Romi Lipi Sahitya and Sonsvkruti sommelon
is
nothing as they cannot swallow the true facts those were exposed at the
sommelan by
the speakers. These Devnagiri leaders have no right to criticize Fr. Pratap and
minister Churchill Alemao as they have failed miserably to promote and develop
Konkani language in the last twenty two years.
