Mervyn,
I have embarked on a project chronicling my own life and that of the Goan
diaspora in Dubai, America and UK. However, I cannot write about the Goan
Diaspora, without reference to East Africa, for here lies the very genesis of
the Goan Catholic Diaspora. Everything spread out of Africa. My own grandfather
worked for a considerable part of his life for the Nairobi Bank in Kenya, yet
we as a family know nothing about his life there. I realise that far more
illustrious people than me have undertaken this task but we can never tire of
fresh perspectives on old histories.

Now, I'm at a disadvantage whilst writing about East Africa, having neither
lived during that era nor in the place, but I do have a formidable group of
East African Goans helping me out. I think they know that I am one of the
foremost supporters of the Goan Catholic community and would never
intentionally hurt or misrepresent them and so they have been as welcoming and
supportive of my endeavours as I will try to be respectful of their lives in
the Diaspora. The only time I put out a request on Goanet is when I have not
been able to sufficiently gather information on my own or need to verify what I
have garnered.

Response:
I don't know what you mean by my "friends" if per chance you mean America, they
have treated African-Americans atrociously but that is for them to reflect
upon, not me. My focus is Goans and an introspection of our own history.

Best,
selma
