Subject: Re: Birthday Greetings - Dayanand Narvekar
February 11, 2009
Sir,
This has reference to the display of faithfulness shown by select sworn
eminent friends of Dayanand Narvekar on his birthday with flowery tributes
to him for his planning and executing skills as a longtime MLA cum minister
in the service of the Goa Government, especially the people of his
constituency, Aldona (Herald 11, Feb, 2009)
Going through the text of the messages/tributes, it seems highly improbable
that Prof. Suresh Amonkar or Prof. Edward D'Lima could have authored these,
simply because the above names are names of Goa's acclaimed academics, and
academics make sure what they put down especially since it will be read by
readers the world over.
This is surely the work of half-baked geniuses in the employ of Dayanand
Narvekar, eager to promote his image, not knowing that such exercises create
more damage than good. And, I am very sure that Narvekar himself must have
had no time to scan these ingenious make-believes, not that he would have
had the good sense or the academic capability of noticing the aberrations.
For one, Prof. Amonkar is seen praising his past students. Except for
Manohar Parrikar, both Dayanand Narvekar and Ramakant Khalap have been no
paragons of virtue that their teacher would be proud of to publicly announce
to the world. Surely a Padmashri awardee would have some reluctance to say
what is said without feeling a sense of guilt especially when Dayanand
Narvekar has been exposed in the Goa Legislative Assembly for the fraud on
the public exchequer to the tune of a few lacs of rupees for furnishing and
interior decorating his own house. Hence this is a dead give-away that this
has not originated from the good professor's hand.
For the other, it is a dead give away that Prof. D'Lima had nothing to do
with his published tribute. He would surely know what "TOO GOOD TO BE
TRUE" actually means.
And, it is true that both these gentlemen friends of Dayanand Narvekar
would have a heart to say no when told that their names will be printed on
appropriate birthday tributes and that the tributes themselves will be taken
care of.
As for the other tributes, these should be considered as the work of
sycophants, paid to do the good day's work.
Dayanand Narvekar must know that he cannot fool the people all the time.
