Food Park A Monster in the Making
The Quepem MLA, Mr. Kavalikar and the Ali Baba Mr. Digambar Kamat are hell bent on going ahead with the Food Park project at Naqueri, in Betul Panchayat, despite the overwhelming local opposition. This is another huge "monster" in the making, which will most certainly destroy the serenity and the tranquility in and around the area. All the residents in and around Naqueri, are very much perturbed, at this monster that's proposed in their area. People are being bribed left right and centre, to betroth this "monster". Most probably Mr. Kavalikar having missed out on the "cut" from the mega developers is trying to squeeze the juice down in Naqueri. The Naqueri-Kanaguinim plateau is a huge stretch of land with pox marks of the bauxite mining on it's central eastern side, where as most of the west front is a sheer drop of few hundred meters into the sea, on the North we have the ONGC and the village of Betul on the eastern side, is the village of Quitol, on the southern side are the villages of Naqueri, Nuem and Kanaguinim, the Kanaguinim and Naqueri villages have overgrown and spread all over the plateau. The people of all these villages are suffering from acute shortage of water and electricity, the tubes hardly light up at night, poor sanitation is noticed everywhere. The roads are narrow with dangerous steep slopes. The only good thing about this place is the greenery that is left around and the fresh air from the sea. The total population of Quitol, Naqeri, Kanaguinim, Betul, Nuem and Cabo de Rama is about 10-12thousand. Mr. Kavalikar says that the food park will generate 40 thousand jobs for the locals. It's been nearly 20 year for the ONGC in the same area. How many locals are working at the ONGC ? For that matter how many Goans are working there ? You mostly find Kannad or Hindi speaking guys entering ONGC, not a single local is employed nor have I seen any Goans either, local people were promised jobs then, but nothing came of it. Now how many of the 10-12 thousand locals will get jobs in the food park ? From where are the rest of the numbers going to come ? Has the Goa government seriously thought about the whole project ? Where is the water going to come from for the food park as well as the 40000 workers and their families ? Where is electricity going to come from ? Where is the sewerage and the waste water going to go ? Into the river Sal on the Betul front or into the open Sea on the west ? Where will all the garbage go ? Or will another mountainous "sonsdo" be created on the plateau ? Does Ali Baba and his pal Mr. Kavalikar have the answers or do they plan to feed the locals to this degenerate monster called Food Park ? The closest hospital of any repute is in Cuncolim (NUSI)-Panzorconi, the closest reputed school and higher secondary is in Cuncolim, Students travel all the way to Navelim and Margao for College, the closest technical institute is in Margao, How many nursing colleges are there in Goa ? Our Government should get the above mentioned institutions established in this area, that will really help the local populace to a much better life, instead of unleashing on them this unwanted monster called the "Food Park" Freddy Agnelo Fernandes -------------------------------------------------------- The content of this electronic communication is intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed and any others who are specifically authorized to receive it.
