Hi Goanetters, I am at Mangalore and Muthalik has created a controversy! The Moral of Moral policing is : Gift of Pink undergarments! Now the question is whether to donate them: if so to whom? Another proposal was there to send them back to the parents of those girls who have sent the valentine day gifts! There is a possibility that the team is waiting for a public burning of these valuable gifts once their 'leaders' are released from the custody.
I spoke to many of the citizens of Mangalore. The interactions brought out certain points: 1. They do not know who this Muthalik is and what is his cause or because? 2. Moral Policing does not fall in line with the sentiments of Mangalore people. Mangalore is known for high inegrity and high moral standards similar to the goan values. 3. What moral policing could prevent when the Bangalore pubs were serving draught beer to girls and women in 1980's 4. Just by going to pubs our Pride or virtue does not get affected. 5. It is the press and the media who have made a hype our of the entire episode. 6. There were no further incidents or insecure feeling in the mind of any single citizen of Mangalore during and after this incident. 7. Mangaloreans (whether ethnic or otherwise) have no time to devote on these petty things. 8. Mangalore girls are smart enough to protect themselves and their culture also. 9. Politics drawing inroads into day to day living is resented by many 10. There are several other methods or educating teenage girls than by beating them up and abusing them in public. 11. Parents at Mangalore are more agitated on such incidents where an someone tries to teach 'how to bring up children' 12. Police are keeping mum on this incident about how their intelligence network failed in this episode. New IGP has taken charge in Mangalore. These factors I am placing on record to avoid a misleading notion that Mangalore is burning. Mangalore is alive and kicking as usual!
