To Goanet - The criminal intervention by the Goa govt to help Timblo and Cidade de Goa subvert the judgment of the highest court in the land has far-reaching consequences for Goa and Goans.
It ends even a semblance of any rule of law and opens the floodgates for all the big national builders right now with their eye on Goa to forge ahead with their designs in the full knowledge that the last line of resistance in their path (the Courts) can be bypassed through the use of political and financial muscle. This well and truly dooms Goa. There are consequences on other fronts as well. Ghatis can now usurp land - or rather, Goan politicos can help their swelling ghati vote-banks commandeer communidade land in a big way and then change laws to 'regularize' it. No legal challenge henceforth can slow the momentum to marginalize the common Goan folk. Cash-loaded Sharmaji-Varmaji and Sabharwal-Agarwal can come in and ride roughshod. When Goans finally wake up to reality - if they ever do - they will realize that their options to revanchism are severely limited. And history teaches that when the normal tools of recourse in a democratic polity are burned and buried, the resulting strife does not make for a pretty picture. Regards, r
