First of all, Amitava who? Second, even if the said Amitava lived for a billion years in Goa he ought to be condemned as bhailo. You don't get accepted as a Goan by sauntering in and shacking it up in the home you recently bought in a coastal village, & cocktailing with the Sarmaji-Varmaji crowd over weekend nights with the token Goan friend thrown into the mix. The said Amitava's tribe - the Bongs - are experts at deciding who is and who is not a Bong. He should seek some counsel at home first before hectoring Goans. Third, there are several outsiders who have come to Goa, participated actively in Goan life, and over time come to be accepted as Goans. and who rightly think of themselves as Goans. Examples are the Maganlals, the Parekhs (one of whom is a Deputy Mayor of Panjim) and so on. I know one recent arrival who has made sincere efforts to integrate within Goan society and who has been accepted by his village as one of their own. These instances, I am sorry to say, are extremely few. Most bhaile are here for that trophy Goan house, and see Goa as a hip piece of real estate to own, or are simply escaping the hellholes that thei urban corner of India has become. To these specimens, I say - no Senhor, you no Goan. You get lost. Warm regards, r
