Illegal Konkani Video/Songs on the net? Note: No offence intended to anyone
I know, this should not have come from me but sooner or later I had to speak my mind. And I am doing it only in the name of Konkani and Goa. I think until August 2006, there was no Konkani video clips available on the net like Youtube etc. From late 2007 konkani video on the net was booming and now I feel it has gone out of control. Latest Konkani VCD releases are available on the net. It has even gone to such an extent where it uploaded in parts say Part 1, 2 3 etc. As Youtube allow upto max 10 minutes duration clip, I have seen there are many out there in parts. E.g. Agostinho’s ‘Sir’ is one of the latest releases I have seen it in up to 6 parts. Konkani VCD is usually of 50-70minutes duration. If each part is of 10mins the 6 parts will make 60minutes. That means the entire VCD on the net ? WHY BUY VCD WHEN YOU CAN GET IT FREE ON THE NET? And who get it FREE? Mainly, the NRI Goans And who put it there? Again , mainly the NRI Goans In Goa, there is no much business for VCDs, the producers mainly depend on the NRI Goans and the sponsors to recover the cost. In Goa the trend is like this: WHY BUY VCD FOR Rs.150 WHEN YOU CAN RENT IT FOR Rs.20? (Rs.10 where share it with another household) OR WHY BUY WHEN YOU CAN GET IT FOR FREE from your friends having duplicating machine like computers? Abroad, we have seen we or our children spend up to Rs.2400 per Music or Viedo CD/DVD. We often gift CDs to our children, friends etc But when it comes to spending Rs.150 repeat Rs.150 for supporting Konkani, is this too much? Some of us abroad may moan saying ‘we don’t get Konkani VCDs here so watching on the net is the only option? There are many ways one can get his or her own copy of VCD. The most economical way would be asking some one to get it for you. Or during your visit to Goa, you can buy as many (Always, refer JoeGaoUk’s updated list http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/files/ The quickest and probably the costliest would be by asking some one to send you by courier. To Europe, up to 10 VCDs would cost Rs.1600+the cost of VCDs say 1500 for 10 or 750 for 5. Total for 5 VCDs would be Rs.2350 which is less than what we usually pay for one CD abroad. Again, you can ask you friends and family in Goa to do this job for you. (pl do not send requests to JoeGoaUk, he does not sell VCDs, he only promotes them) Often, we may think, we help promoting Konkani by compiling a list of links/video available on the net and then forwarding the same to friends and family and other net forums or mailings lists, I guess this is not promotion but killing Konkani silently. Owners of such groups/mailing lists too can play their role whilee deciding on it’s approval. Every time I was returning to UK, I used to carry at least 25 new VCDs, about five of which to a lady who always paid me in advance. Seeing that she does not phone or write to me now a days, I wrote to her, how come you not asking me about the updates on latest VCDs? She replied saying, ‘I don’t want it any more now because my grandson (14) get it downloaded from the net, compile a CD and gives it to me’ I have with me all the VCD/DVDs that are legally released in Goa. One can check the complete list of over 241 VCD/DVDs with scanned front cover that were released since early 2004 http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/files/ As I said it before several times, I never lend my VCDs to anyone. But the way it is going on the net now, it makes me to think that VCD business/production is really going to the dogs (as put by Manfa in his mail see quoted below) I got a mouth full from the Producers of ‘GHUTT’ for putting a small trailer (se quoted below) but today, almost all Ghutt songs available on the net. The only person as a owner/producer who appreciated or understood my work on the net is Mr. Jerome Mendes ([email protected]) who has wholeheartedly given me his permission to use clips from AMCHEM NOXIB, NIRMONN, BUERANTLO MUNIS, BOGLANTT etc In Sept, 2006, I wrote to Manfa about a clip and this is what they had to say in reply. Quote: From: "manfa music" <[email protected]> View contact details (Sept, 2006) To: "JoeGoaUk" <[email protected]> Dear Mr. Joe, I cant understand what you mean by "one Song clip. Incase if you have taken the Song from my production "Aslelim Dukhi Naselim Sukhi" and have put up on the net than its very much wrong on your part, as I have expend an amount of Rs. 3 lakhs on this Telefilm, and I am upset over here as I wont be in a position to recover the cost, and if I cant recover this will be my last Video production. as I have not yet recovered even 50% of the cost from "Bojekann" & "Bhogsonnem" This Video production is gone to the dogs as very few people buy Original V.C.D. its merry business of the Video Libary Ownes and Dupicators. Fabian Soory, I have taken one song clip from your latest VCD Aslelim Dhukhi Naslelim Sukhi. But given due credit as usual to you both. I always do. Pl let me know if I was wrong and that I should not do it again. I was just trying it for the first time and it worked. it took long time though. Promotion of Goa/Konkani is my main aim. Thanks for your support. I have been observing your activities on the internet for sometime now, and it concerns me that you are using copyrighted material from the film for reasons best know to you. I was deeply disturbed when I saw the uploaded version of the premiere show. I don't know the point you’re trying prove by proclaiming you have visuals from there, but it was wrong on your part to first get someone to secretly shoot it and then you upload it.
