Yesterday, the convenor of MAPUSA NAGRIKANCHO EKVOTT called for a meeting
of the core group in view of the planned Morcha to be held on 15th April at
10:30 a.m. , under the banner of MNE, to discuss the nitty gritty that needs
to to taken care of, and to compare notes, especially when MNE is in the
forefront of questioning big sharks in politics who are about to turn the
Capital City of Bardez, which boasts of the world-known Mapusa Friday
Market, into a mega concrete jungle.
And the convenor's address, which was well received by almost around 40
attendees may be summarized as under:
1. That Mapusa happens to be the capital city of Bardez.
2. That the planned concretization of open spaces/agricultural fields will
be the death knell of this capital city of Bardez.
3. This morcha is significant because there is no other way. If there was,
this morcha would be the last thing MNE would want to organize.
4. The Morcha has to be a success, no! we have to make this a success. A
very crystal clear signal must be sent to powers that be that citizens of
Mapusa and Citizens
of Bardez will not take it lying down anymore to the greed of a well
placed few.
5. That it is the responsibility of the citizens of Mapusa and of Bardez to
make this morch a success.
6. If not, they will have to share the blame for what will happen.
7. MNE has stepped out and it will remain out, for whatever it takes.
8. This morcha will not be the last thing that MNE is organizing. It will
not rest until Mapusa city becomes the city of Goa to be respected.
9. If we elders do nothing today to stop this wanton destruction for
profit, then we shall have no answer to give to our children's questions
tomorrow when they will ask
"why did you not do something to stop this senseless mess?".
The message the Convenor was sending out is:
"Come out in large numbers for a few hours to show that you care for YOUR
CITY before it is too late. Put down the shutter of your shop for a couple
of hours if you must, to show your solidarity with Mapusa Nagrikancho
Ekvott"
