Mario responds:

These are all excellent suggestions for economic development in Goa. Why
aren't enterprising Indian businessmen not investing in these opportunities?
Don't we have a Goan equivalent of Narendra Modi? Perhaps Goa should be
annexed to Gujarat:-))

Perhaps Samir can raise some money and invest in one of his own suggestions and
become the next Ambani-type gazillionaire:-)) I'm sure the investment advisers
on Goanet can help him raise the money:-))

I see only one problem with Samir's suggestions - what happens to the supply of
the iron ore from the mines? If the ore cannot be obtained in Goa, it will be
obtained somewhere else - thus shifting the problem in what we call NIMBY in
the USA. NIMBY stands for Not In MY Back Yard.

This term is used when people want something, but don't want it located where
they live.

One solution may be what strip miners in north America are required to do -
which is to reclaim the land after they have mined it by leveling the land to
certain standards and planting trees and grasses that were removed during the
mining phase: http://library.thinkquest.org/05aug/00461/stripm.htm

The topography may not be quite what it used to be, but, if properly planned,
it may be quite acceptable to everyone.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Who's going to implement such a scheme in Goa?

Let me give you a comparative clue. Do you have any idea what the
environmentalists have in mind for everyone in their attempt to control climate
change?
