Many of you will remember Goanet member and poster John Monteiro especially as he unfolded his trauma of being the son of Agente Casimiro Monteiro, Goa's once dreaded PIDE agent.
I received a call from John's younger and half-brother from Portugal who is now in Kazakhsthan, on petroleum business. This brother wished to connect with John and contacted me since I had raised the whole issue of his father from a casual reading of the Maharashtra Govt gazette of 1955. This call from John's brother Jose Monteiro, will at last have answered John's plea "Even if he is indeed ‘dead and gone’ as you put it, it would help us enormously to lay our ghosts to rest. Jose Monteiro tells me that John had suffered a mild stroke. This probably explains why he has not posted on Goanet for some time now. The last time was when he mentioned that he would be visiting Goa in December 2008 after a span of many many years from the time his mother took him away as a young boy, to settle in England.
