Assuming that the letter “A real person indeed!” (Herald , 8th July) is written
by a genuine author, three things can be deduced from it: 1. That whoever gave
him this name was ignorant of the fact that “Milagre” in Konkani means
‘Miracle’, and the plural ‘Milagreo’ is not a name even if mis-spelt. 2. That
he is ignorant of the fact that the Holy Spirit Church does not baptise
Christians but only Catholics and the reference to “Goan Christians…” is a
terminology used by non-Goans or that of pseudo-literate Goans who literally
translate Konkani; and 3. That the author does not own any piece of land, or
else, going by the gist of his letter “Shameful opposition”, he would have
definitely donated his land for a ‘Kabrestan’. So now all you Goans donate your
land as he is eager to be a Champion for a cause. Every individual has a right
to voice their opinion, but Catholics should refrain from preaching what they
themselves do not practice.
