Do I have your permission to organise it, please? FN

Dear Fred
Surprised that a journalist of your stature can mock what should in fact be a
good debate. I am also surprised that you have not understood the thrust of my
post. Nobody needs anyone's permission to host conventions or anything if one
wills to do it. Since the Global Goan Convention is a public affair, paid in
part by the Goa taxpayers, it is open for discussion.
Ridiculing the issue and, by extension, me does not help. If I was a working
journalist in Goa right now, I would have taken the cue from what is said what
the convention on this forum and arranged an interview with Eduardo Faleiro and
also called up the organisers in Oman and asked for their views.
I suppose this is not your type of journalism. I have said before that your
brand of journalism differs from mine. However, you could do a column on the
merits and demirits of hosting a convention in these tough economic times for
the paper you contribute. You have enough matter to take from goanet. Isn't
writing newspaper columns often called "armchair journalism"?
Maybe other journalists on this forum can call up Faleiro and get his reaction
as well as talk to the organisers and ask them what they expect from the
convention.
I haven't seen a post from the members of Goa Sudarop on what they have done
and achieved regarding some of the initiatives outlined at the end of last
year's convention. Their silence is indeed defeaning.
It is by silence that often an issue is ignored or a debate shut down. On
frivilous issues we can count on "empty vessels" to make the most noises.
Gabe said that I should be contributing more to goanet. I have seen how issues
can sidelinded and goanetters engage in raising personal issues or making
personal attacks. It is for such reasons that I do not wade into any
discussions. It is better to retain one's sanity by not jumping into a
cesspool. Save goanet from being a cesspool, please.

Eugene
