----------------------------------------------------------------- Not only in America, but here (in Aussie) too. The second generation has only visited Goa as a holiday destination - their thought processes are totally Australian. Except for one family I know of, no one talks in Konkani to their children, or talks about Goa to them. I am guilty of this fault too. Most World Goa Day functions are about food (sometimes arrangements are made for children to have bland food because they cannot stomach the xacutis and sorpotels), dancing to the (deafening) bands and generally having a "good time". Any Goan content is drowned out by people talking - there seems to be absolutely no discipline on part of the Goan audience to keep quiet so that the efforts of those putting up a show can be appreciated or explanatory speeches listened to. So everyone goes home from these functions not any wiser. I hope current occasions are a lot better in this respect than ones I've attended a number of years ago.
