The recent Supreme Court’s ruling on reservation for Schedule Tribes and OBCs
which appeared in the local dailies on 18th August, 2009, is a welcome
decision. The ruling states that a migrant SC or ST cannot claim a reserved
status in OBC quota in another State. Many migrants have usurped Goan jobs
reserved for OBCs in government and semi-government offices, etc. So too have
students from outside States occupied seats in our professional colleges. It is
now for our Labour, Employee’s, Student’s Unions, etc., to take up this issue
and be vigilant in future.
