August 25, 2009 - Goanet's 15th Anniversary

Yes Eric, there was a lot of muscle & money inputs by the Kenedy administration
to bolster India, politically, during Mao's menace & economically, during the
food &
other essential commodities' critical doldrums.
But on a more tender note, I know, that Ted had a vast soft corner for Goa: he
had
heard, & learnt, about Goa from his b-in-l, Sargeant Shriver, his beloved
sister, Eunice's
husband. Eunice preceeded him to eternity a couple of weeks.
Shriver, was appointed by JFK, to head the famously created American Peace
Corps: Of
their hordes that descended upon India, most fetching gals & sturdy youths, Goa
became
the pricipal R&R base...and that base, virtually, the Mario miranda mansion in
Loutulim.
I, to my great joy, interacted with them joyfully & memorably...
Shriver had told Ted about the great Goan hospitality, etc.
Thus, after Bobby's assasination, Ted became the de facto pater familias of the
vast Kenedy
brood, & their tortuous life styles.
A particular ordeal for Ted was his nephew, Michael(?) who later died aboard a
commercial
aircraft: His addiction to drugs had become a traumatic issue for the family.
Ted, then, remembered of Shriver's glowing reports about Goa, and coffered with
Mario to
arrange a drying up long vaccation for the nephew in Loutulim, to which Mario
aceded.
The young blighter perished before the plan could be executed.
This is just a footnote in the imense Kenedy saga that, I felt, merited
disclosure...
