Two new showrooms/office spaces, double height (135 sq m each with bath) for lease in upscale Campal/Miramar beach area, Panaji, Goa. Contact: [email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Valmiki, Viv n Mervyn ! I was surprised to note that P.P. worked in Mogadishu, Somalia - probably in the fifties when it was a Italian colony - and I am certain that many folks in Tanzania were not aware of his pre-Tanganyika travels. Like Viv, Mervyn's father - Dick Lobo and myself, P.P. worked for the British Bank- Barclays Bank, which other Indians called the "Goa" bank -ostensbly because of the special preference the British Managers gave goans. (I resigned from Barclays in late 1966- five weeks before it was nationalised by the Tanzanian government- to pursue a journalistic career). But P.P- who like many goans "snaked" his way up the ladder to become a signatory (executive)- probably surprised many of his fellow associates and friends to resign from Barclays in the mid-sixties and take up a position- I believe - with a European Bank in Nairobi, Kenya. I used to meet him and his very charming wife- Sheila at several parties in Nairobi given the very many common friends we had over a long period of time. The last time I met him was in 1979 in Goa when he came down on retirement. Like my dad - Boaventura who was the bestman at his wedding- P.P.. hails from Velim, Salcete. The last I heard some years ago was that he had donated his ancestral home for a program to rehabilitate alcoholic addicts. rgds. Tony Barros. Union Twnshp, New Jersey, USA
