At least, for four centuries , the illiteracy level of the bulk of the catholic population of Goa was very high indeed and during these centuries illiteracy could have been reduced by the churches' parochial schools but the men of God , for reasons best known to themselves, would appear to have successfully denied the fruits of education totheir poor co-religionists. Or so we thought. Xannu Moidekar would appear to have solved the riddle of the dark ages ( for most of us ) of Catholicism in Goa.
