This thread is taking on an unpleasant colour. I am surprised that the Bharat online site did not truthfully reveal that the "dominant" religion forced thousands of unfortunate women to unwillingly jump on to their husbands' funeral pyre, or that thousands of unfortunate untouchables could not draw drinking water from the village wells.
But for the Portuguese, and later the British, women and the untouchables would still have been subjected to the same treatment. (Of course Hindu reformers, mostly from Bengal, did help too). One can find skeletons in every closet. That does not mean we should be squabbling about bones. On the other hand, one can find good things in every religion. We should appreciate them. It is one thing to say hindus form a majority in Goa, but an entirely to think of them as "dominant". A democracy is not the same as tyranny of the majority. I think the website content was designed by a doofus. Jagdish
