I am a Karachite Goan who left Karachi in 1959 but am now living in
Canada. I
have been to Goa a few times since the last exposition of St. Francis Xavier's
body
in 2003 and have to say have been most disappointed with the drastic changes
that
have taken place in Goa what with the onslaught by Germans, English,
Australians and
others and, now, more recently, the Russians and Israelis. Because of the
massive
influx of all these Anglo/Europeans, I have a very strong feeling that, one of
these
days, there will be a massive terrorist attack in Goa similar to what took
place in
Mumbai and, eariler, in Bali. There has been a flood of Kashmiris in Goa who
look
upon the westerners, especially the women with their scanty clothing, as totally
degenerate and will do anything to dissuade them from coming to Goa. These
Kashmiris, who, although they are getting all their benefits from India,
actually
have their feelings towards Pakistan. These people also feel that, with the
tremendous influx of westerners, the Indian coffers are bulging at the seams
with
hard currencies which they feel, in the event of a conflict between India and
Pakistan which seems certain to happen at some time in the future, will be used
for
the purchase of military hardware to be used against Pakistan. Another reason
for a
massive terrorist attack. The influx of westerners has also caused the local
Goans
to become totally corrupt and immoral. Property/land values have skyrocketted
with
the result that there is conflict within families - parents against children,
father
against mother - and, infact, the breakup of many families. Everyone is caught
up
in making a fast buck the easy way.
