Folks,
I woke up this morning to the sound of distant drums and the nagging need to
get started with calling all my loved ones.
First on the list are those in Goa, else they go to sleep before I can get in
touch with them.
Well, I tried calling for an hour before I got connected to my sister. As most
N. Americans know, it is always a hassle to make a call to India during festive
days. When I finally got through, my relatives were on a natural high. They
told me that the reason I could not get thru to them was because all their
friends were calling to congratulate them.
Let me back up a little now. My in-laws usually meet at a cousins house for
lunch on Christmas day. This year, a TV station asked if they could come over
and film 'a typical Goan Xmas'. Since the host knew the TV crew would be
arriving, she asked all her (and my) nieces and nephews to bring their musical
instruments along with them. These nieces and nephews are pre-teen and
teenagers.
Snips of the Xmas party were shown on Goan TV in the evening and that's when
they started getting calls which kept their line busy.
Needless to say, this news gave the rest of the family in N. America one of
their best Xmas gifts ever.
