Loss Of Innocence
Wendell's description of virgin Goa does take me back to the good old days, though we did not have road and electricity life was good, pure air, clean water, fresh and home grown vegetables and fruits and ofcourse fresh fish that was available 365 day of the year, there were no refrigerators so everything use to be fresh, eggs and chicken in good number around each house hold and not mention pigs, goats and cows. The mountains and neighboruhoods, full of trees, fields lush and green, ponds, streams, springs and wells all over, fisher folks casting nets on endless open clean beaches and above all Konkanni was the only language heard in and around villages. Those were nostalgic days, today those are just faded memories. Last decade and a half, the maiden has certainly lost it's most precious virtue, has been laid bare for every one to indulge, in all sorts of gruesome activities. The way contraception has changed our bodies, from tools of procreation, to tools of pleasure for recreation and fun, so also unplanned and unwarranted development has changed Goa's natural beauty, innocence and simplicity into an orgy of destruction, corruption and other myriad forms of evil. In the name of development, our corrupt politicians have turned their megalomaniacal fantasies into realities, destroying the natural beauty and tranquility of Goa in the bargain. The cockeyed policies of our corrupt government, has taken Goa on a journey, from being the most sublime, to the mundane and now the most ostracized. Will it end here ? Should we accept Goa as it is, in it's depraved state, like Wendell so aptly put it, a bride deflowered and ravaged, by our politicians and their romping comrades, from Goa itself and elsewhere ? Or should we leave Goa to the mercy of these unflinching, unrelenting scavengers, to finish off what they had started ? Whereby, we live with our guilt of having done nothing, to stop this savage attach on mother Goa ? Or do we unite and fight to stop this sacrilege against mother Goa and work towards healing the inflicted afflictions, as true blue blooded sons and daughters of Goa ?
