-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM, JAN 31 In a stern warning to the Karnataka government, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Sunday stated that his government would never bow down on the Mhadei issue. Kamat was speaking at the 15th Goa Yuva Mahotsav, attended by thousands of youth from around the State and organised by Konkani Bhasha Mandal in association with Innovators and Bhataram Parivar, at Bicholim. Bicholim legislator Rajesh Patnekar,Yuva Mahotsav Chief Co-ordinator Dr Shekhar Salkar and Konkani Bhasha Mandal President Prashant Nayak were present. “Divche na, divche na amchi Mhadei Divche na,” (we will never give Mhadei) Kamat expressed his feeling towards the issue. “We are always taking into consideration the views of the public and we will stand by the public opinion and would support the Mhadei issue,” said Kamat. Urging the youth to support the issue, the chief minister said: “We need the support of the youth in the Mhadei case and we know that they would not let us down.” “We have some responsibilities towards our country and the State and the youth should always keep this in mind. The future is in the hands of the youth and we say that IT means Indian Talent,” he claimed adding “youths should love the country.” Speaking on the occasion, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi mesmerised the crowd with his Konkani. Thousands of people attended the gathering to take a glimpse of the actor. It was difficult even for the organisers and the police to keep control over the situation. Oberoi said he has fallen in love with Goa and urged the youth to keep the Goan flag flying high. “Goans should save and promote the unique language, tradition and culture of the State and keep up the reputation. You should strive to make Goa more beautiful, loving and successful,” stated Oberoi. Citing his personal example, the Bollywood actor also urged the public to quit smoking. “Smoking and tobacco are the most harmful substance and youth of today should not fall prey to it,” he said. He also appreciated the chief minister for his humbleness and said that it is the Goan culture. The two-day Goan Yuva Mahotsav was attended by thousands of youths from several colleges who participated in about 15 on-stage and off-stage events. The Yuva de Goa from Margao bagged the first prize, while Virabhadra Bicholim bagged the second prize. The best educational institute award was given to Goa University.
