Indeed, with regard to publicly supported academic research, anybody can
independently try to replicate each and every scientific result because all
methods and data are freely available to the public, as in the case of climate
research. As Marlon pointed out, no important result remains unchallenged by
others. In fact, there is a veritable rat race to find fault with the latest
finding. Being a competitor and peer reviewer myself, I know how rigorous and
adversarial the entire process is.

Mario responds:

This discussion has devolved into a boat load of red herrings.

I agree with Santosh as a generality, but not in the climate change arena.

We know from the emails disclosed by the whistleblower at East Anglia College
that important climate raw data was destroyed, other data was withheld from
scientists outside the orthodox group of like-minded scientists, there were
threats that data would be destroyed if forced to be disclosed, and scientists
with opposing views were obstructed at every turn.

The dissent to the politically motivated orthodoxy is growing, as it should,
because the orthodoxy makes little intuitive sense and because of the serious
policy consequences for the western economies that drive the world economy.

While Marlon is simply an amateur observer with a biased point of view, as a
scientist and peer reviewer you should be condemning these nefarious practices
instead of putting a happy face on and repeatedly telling us what most science
and scientists are like. That deflects attention from this specific area of
science and the emerging FACTS of how these climate scientists and their
sponsors like Rajendra Pachauri and Al Gore have been operating.

Goanetters look to you to be objective, and I don't think you have been in this
area, which is not your area of expertise, with all due respect.

Moreover, no fraudulent result can ever lead to a technology that works. If
Wright brothers had fabricated their results, planes would never have flown. So
no matter how many Google searches Gabriel does, the very fact that Google
searches work in the first place is a testament to the unassailable truth and
significance of the scientific findings that have gone through the wringer of
peer review and replication by competitors.

Mario responds:

I don't see what is working so well. The climate change plane has crashed and
burned, and the extreme environmentalists are reduced to un-scientific
observations about "warmest years" and "warmest decade" to cover up the fact
that the trend in global warming has been sideways at best since 1998, whereas
their predictions was for sharp increases in global warming.

What we are seeing from recent disclosures are biased scientists and IPCC
administrators desperate to maintain their point of view, climate models that
have been wrong for an entire decade and other planets experiencing global
warming without any humans to blame. In the meantime we see trace quantities
of man-made CO2 being blamed for global warming on Earth, demands that
predictions by models that have failed be believed and used to make economic
policy, and demands that only the western economies be throttled back to
emission levels that predated the industrial age on a per capita basis.

Regarding the continuing claims of rising sea levels here is a news report of
the opinion of one of the foremost scientists in the world on sea levels:

Excerpt:

But if there is one scientist who knows more about sea levels than anyone else
in the world it is the Swedish geologist and physicist Nils-Axel Mörner,
formerly chairman of the INQUA International Commission on Sea Level Change.
And the uncompromising verdict of Dr Mörner, who for 35 years has been using
every known scientific method to study sea levels all over the globe, is that
all this talk about the sea rising is nothing but a colossal scare story.

Despite fluctuations down as well as up, "the sea is not rising," he says. "It
hasn't risen in 50 years." If there is any rise this century it will "not be
more than 10cm (four inches), with an uncertainty of plus or minus 10cm". And
quite apart from examining the hard evidence, he says, the elementary laws of
physics (latent heat needed to melt ice) tell us that the apocalypse conjured
up by Al Gore and Co. could not possibly come about.
