Joe, Thank you for forwarding me this post since I do not read Goanet these days. The Church of St Simon and St Jude is over 400 years old, older than the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe in nearby Batim. I had posted photographs here on Goanet almost 2 years ago. There was almost certainly an older temple there - you can clearly see the remains - steps et al - of a structure in the compound facing the church. >I guess, this is the only church of Goa with no inhabitants >(Except the newest Sharma Bungalow which is built in the name of Farm >house?). > > >Sharma’s Farm House? It is also featured in The Rape of Goa. Through an RTI application with the Batim panchayat, I obtained the papers of this 'farmhouse' and found out that there was a disconnect between the plans that were filed and what was actually built. This construction was the first crack in what has been for centuries a pristine and heavily forested hillside, and it has thrown open that area for more construction. Furthermore, the architect on the project was a Goan who claims to be an environmentalist. When I posted this on Goanet, the alleged journo Frederick Noronha rushed to Sharma-ji's and Architect-bab's defence (I am sure Sharmaji will figure in his list of "101 Great CyberBhaile"). Admin. Frederick Noronha claimed that it was my 300mm lens that was to blame (* see below for links to the Goanet archive). Joe, I think it is your lens that is lying. Or maybe you have photoshopped your image to make the tiny farmhouse look like a mansion. Check with Admin. Noronha. So Goans, how's the footsie dancer Dr. Oscar Rebello doing these days, eh? I am sure Sharma-ji will agree that he has saved Goa for your guys. So will the secular builder Datta Dam Naik and the rest of the Saturday Night Clubbers. * The entire thread about Admin. Noronha's 300mm lens fantasy is at the following link - http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg30023.html Warm regards, r
