Today we went to Valpoi for the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. And I thought, Valpoi is in Pednem but it is Satari Taluka I think Vapoi is the capital of Satari (as in Margao of Salcette)
We thought it would take us an hour or so from Panjim . Our bus going ‘alot-dolot’ and it was ‘pavon-pavona’ I have to admit, I got up late (It happens every time when I take bit of overdose of ‘copachem’ on the prev. night) The feast High Mass started at 10.30am and at this time our bus just passed Tivim. After passing Porvorim, Mapusa, Tivim, Asnora, Bicholim, Sankli, Honda our bus finally arrived at Valpoi just after 12 noon. Lucky, the Mass was still going on. (Main celebrant ws Fr. Santan Carvalho, Parish priest of of Pomburpa) It took us more than 2 hours (Rs.20 fare) where as on our way back (via Amona, Marcel, Old Goa) it took us just about 1.5 hours (Fare 22 by KTC) With pvt. vehicle, one can cover the distance in just one hour (via Amona) Well, Valpoi Church seems new and modern (1887/1968). It has old School and new school – see pics The chuch is on the main road, opp VMC (Valpoi Municipal Council) Valpoi is also well known for Police Training Whatever, it is, we enjoyed our bus journey and eagerly looking for more of it in future. Since no one invited us for the feast, nor we had any friends or relatives in Valpoi, we entered into a nearby Amol’s restaurant where we had ‘Xit Coddi’ (more on this soon) So, no Sannas-vodde, Sorpotel etc, just fish curry rice thali.
