Hi Gabe,
Actually about 11 years ago. I had to go there quite regularly on office work.
I hated, hated the place. Even if filled to the brim with buildings, it is
still souless. To an artist like M F Hussain, who has drawn his inspiration
from the colours and culture of India for 90 odd years, it must be worse than
prison to be now in a state that is so colourless, devoid of an artistic
heritage and crippling in its freedom of expression. It must be a state worse
than death to be honest.
----------------
In fact, we Indians must start a petition to have Hussain back. I'd like to add
that the fight over Hussain is really not about art, it is something much more
basic than that for Indian minorities like myself. It's about just how much of
a citizen of India am I and is my freedom based on the merit or demerits of my
religion in India? Why are minorities lesser people in India? This is the
actual battle.
Warm regards,
Selma
